How Much to Charge for a Website in India (2026 Pricing Guide)
Pricing is where most new freelancers freeze — charge too little and you're working nights for nothing, charge too much with nothing to back it up and the quote goes nowhere. Here's a realistic breakdown of what small business websites actually go for in India right now, and how to justify your number.
The four project tiers
Single-page site (₹3,000–₹8,000): One scrolling page — hero, services, contact form, maybe a gallery. Right for a salon, a local clinic, or a small shop that just needs to exist online and rank for its own name.
Small multi-page site (₹8,000–₹20,000): 4–6 pages — home, about, services, gallery, contact — usually with basic on-page SEO and a WhatsApp click-to-chat button. This is the bulk of the local-business market: real estate agents, interior designers, gyms, restaurants.
Business site with functionality (₹20,000–₹50,000): Booking forms, a blog, an admin panel to update content, integration with WhatsApp Business API or a CRM. Fits clinics with appointment booking, coaching institutes, multi-location businesses.
E-commerce or custom web app (₹50,000+): Product catalogs, payment gateway integration, inventory. This is a different sales conversation and usually a longer timeline — scope it separately rather than bundling it into a standard quote.
What actually moves the price
Business owners don't have a mental model for "how many hours does a website take" — they compare your number to what they'd pay a competitor, or to nothing (since many haven't paid for a website before). Three things justify a higher number regardless of tier: showing them a working demo before they've committed to anything, quoting based on what the site will do for their business (more calls, more bookings) rather than what it costs you to build, and having a portfolio of similar businesses to point to.
Retainers are where the real money is
A one-time build is a single payment. A ₹1,500–₹5,000/month retainer for hosting, minor updates, and basic maintenance turns a single client into recurring revenue — and it's an easy add-on once they've already said yes to the build. Most agencies that survive past year one have moved a majority of clients onto some form of retainer.
Don't compete on price alone
There's always someone who'll build a site for ₹1,500. Competing there is a race to the bottom. The businesses worth pitching are the ones with an obvious, visible gap — no website, an outdated one, missing contact info — where the value of fixing it is clear before you've said a price. Lead with the gap you found, not a discount.

The free website audit checker gives you a concrete list of what's wrong with a prospect's current site — useful both for the pitch and for scoping the quote. The ROI calculator helps frame the price around what the business could gain, not just what the work costs.
